About Cassandra

Hello, my name is Cassie, and I would love to help you with your learning. I have been a year 5 teacher since September, but I have worked with children since 2017, and I find it to be the most fulfilling work I can do. I thoroughly enjoy teaching my class, but I also believe that it is important for children to get the chance to learn with a teacher one to one. In the current educational climate, where class sizes are increasing and teacher workload is growing, I am all too aware that some students don't get the support that they need, especially after the stress of the pandemic, which has left so many students behind. This is why I have taken up tutoring.

Whether there are specific concepts you are struggling with or you just need a boost to your overall confidence in a subject, I hope I can be the help you need. My lessons are targeted at children aged four to eleven, but I am happy to take on students who are older if you feel you have gaps in your primary school knowledge that need to be filled. Lessons can be 30 minutes to an hour based on the age or needs of the child, for example I recommend a shorter lesson for a younger child.

I am a trainee primary school teacher who will be awarded a PGCE with QTS in August. My training is school-direct, so I have been teaching in a year 5 classroom since September. I also had the experience of working in a year 2 classroom for a month. Before I started my training, I worked with children in various educational settings for five years. I have worked as an online tutor of English, I have taught English in the classroom to students from the age of four to thirteen in South Korea, and I have worked as a one-to-one teaching assistant for a student with special educational needs in year 6.

It is my belief that the knowledge we acquire in the time we are at school is like a pyramid. The base of the pyramid is built during our primary school years, and the rest of the knowledge we acquire in late KS2 and beyond builds on these foundations. Perhaps during the building of those foundations, the student was ill or missed school for any reason, and one of the blocks wasn't placed well. Perhaps the teaching of a concept didn't suit the way a child learns, and the block is weak and crumbly. These cracks in the foundations show up throughout the rest of the child's career in education. My goal with tutoring is to find and target these cracks to give your child a stronger foundation on which to build the rest of their learning.

As a trainee teacher, I spend a lot of time engaging with the national curriculum and studying the progression that primary school students are expected to make, not just through primary school but also beyond. I get many opportunities to observe teachers and students in all year groups, and I have spent time in the local secondary school observing how students are supported in their transition so that I can support my students in preparation. I know what knowledge students are expected to have to pass their SATs in year 2 and year 6, and I have spent a lot of time with year 2 and year 6 teachers discussing how students are supported to achieve well in these exams.
