About Beth

I’m a fully qualified primary teacher and I have a degree in creative writing. I worked many jobs in industry before becoming a teacher. I know what employers value, have a full knowledge of the primary national curriculum and aim to help you to do well, not only in your learning but also to relate the skills and knowledge to real life. The things we teach should be relatable to situations we really will face. I have a wealth of life experience to draw from to help make this connection.

About the lesson

I am a friendly and patient tutor and my first job is to put you at ease. Once I get to know a bit about you I can tailor lessons to your interests. We will work together to assess what you know, what you need to know and the steps to get you there. Lessons are designed to be as engaging and as interactive as possible. I continually assess understanding through asking you questions and try new approaches until my students have mastered the knowledge, understanding and skills they need.
Writing and reading comprehension is learned through quality texts and specific skills or reading domains are focused on each lesson, as we work towards combining the skills in a longer peice of writing and comprehension tests.
In maths, we look at visual and physical aids and real life scenarios you can relate to to help you grasp the concepts. I try to use technology where ever possible and to make maths fluency exciting by setting timers to add challenge.
Learning is a game. It should be fun. If you want to learn any other primary subjects such as history, science, geography, RE or even French I can help.
If you struggle in lessons and need a boost of confidence, I can preteach areas so you stay on track or even ahead of the class. Sometimes that boost of confidence is what we need to start to succeed. This can really help you redefine your relationship to the teacher, the school and the learning process.
I also offer a 30 minute homework support session. It’s not about just getting the answers correct and handing it in, it’s about using homework as an opportunity to cement the learning. Through questioning and prompting I can help you find the answers for yourself (no I won’t do the homework for you)
