About Jude
My name is Jude Mayer, and I am a bassist, composer, and music educator with a passion for helping others understand and appreciate music on a deeper level. I have completed advanced collegiate coursework in music theory and jazz analysis through the University of Arkansas and am an active performing musician.
My studies have included functional harmony, chromatic harmony, voice leading, SATB part writing, ear training, improvisation, and score analysis. I believe that music theory is a language, and by learning that language, musicians gain the tools to better understand the music they play, hear, and create.
As a teacher, my goal is to make theory practical, engaging, and applicable to real music. Whether you are a beginner building a foundation or an intermediate musician looking to expand your knowledge, I strive to help students develop confidence, musical understanding, and the skills needed for continued growth.

Hello! My name is Jude, and I am a musician, educator, and lifelong student of music. I am currently pursuing advanced musical studies and have completed upper-level music theory coursework, including collegiate music theory and jazz analysis. As an active jazz bassist and composer, I apply music theory every day in both performance and study.
Music theory is a language, and learning that language provides the foundation for understanding how music works. I offer online music theory instruction for students of all ages, from complete beginners to intermediate musicians looking to deepen their knowledge.
Lessons can cover music notation, scales, chords, functional harmony, chromatic harmony, SATB part writing, voice leading, ear training, jazz theory, improvisation, score analysis or whatever else you are working on. My approach focuses on developing practical understanding rather than memorization, helping students understand not only the "rules" of music, but also when and how those rules can be broken creatively.
Whether you are preparing for college-level music study, improving your musicianship, or simply looking to better understand the music you love, I can help you build a strong theoretical foundation and become a more confident and knowledgeable musician.
