About Melissa
My name is Melissa (which is Greek for "honey'). I am a 25-year professional English teacher from the U.S. After teaching English Composition (a fancy word for writing) in universities and colleges in America for 13 years, I moved to Thailand, where I continued to teach English at all levels in various contexts. One year ago, I first came to Sabah, and I fell in love! I also love language and people. One of my favorite things in the world (besides dogs and chocolate) is the feeling of supporting and empowering my students in achieving their English goals. . .

My pedaogical approach centers students' unique interests and goals in class materials and activities, always with a focus on building critical English skills and confidence in marked ways that help students achieve their English-related goals. Classes usually run from 60-90 minutes. I have been teaching for 25 years, predominantly young adults, although I have taught young children and older adults as well (My youngest student ever was three and my oldest was 74!). Language is power. Empowering students through English is at the heart of this work I love.
