About Eddy
My name is Eddy - I am 30 years old, and a native of Invercargill, in the far south of New Zealand. Since graduating from Victoria University of Wellington with a Master's Degree in Second Language Learning and Teaching, I have worked as a professional English teacher in Beijing, Moscow, and now back home in Invercargill, where I currently work teaching ESOL to adult learners in a tertiary environment.
I have a personal interest in languages and language learning - I also have a degree in French and German (although these are pretty rusty now!) and can communicate in Russian, thanks to my Russian wife and several years in Moscow! This means that as well as knowledge and experience in English teaching, I also know what it is like to learn a new language myself!
As a teacher, I tend to keep things relaxed and comfortable -my students usually have fun, as well as improving their language skills!

I am a professional ESOL teacher, and have an MA in Second Language Teaching from VUW. I have 6+ years of experience teaching English in China, Russia and right here in New Zealand, where I am from. I have taught ages 3-75, to people of all backgrounds, and have helped many English learners meet their goals and achieve great success in language learning.
But that's enough about me - my lessons are all about YOU!
My approach to teaching English is to consider:
1. Where you are coming from - your background, experiences, native language.
2. Where you are now - your strengths and weaknesses in English, your life situation and learning context
3. Where you are going - your goals for English! What do you want to achieve? Passing IELTS or PTE? Gaining entrance to a university? Improving your general comprehension? Learning specific English for a job situation?
All of these things are important, and they make every learner different! Together, we can appraise your current skills, and what you need to improve to meet your specific language goals. Generally, the first couple of lessons will involve learning more about your level of English, and then working together to make a plan for how to move forward! Lessons are typically one hour - but I am flexible! I am happy to teach students of all ages, gender, background and nationality- let's get to work together!
