About Mila
I am a Microsoft Excel tutor with 6 years of experience and a BSc in Data Science and Business Analytics. I have worked with over 230 students from complete beginners to experienced analysts seeking to extend their capability into advanced automation and data modelling. My Excel teaching is built around the immediate practical application of every skill covered, because I have found that students who see a direct connection between what they are learning and what they actually need to do at work progress twice as fast as those working through generic exercises. I begin every new student relationship with a detailed needs assessment — what do you use Excel for, what takes too long, what do you wish it could do — because this understanding shapes the entire teaching programme. My approach to formula construction teaches the logic of nested function building: how to read the innermost function first, understand what it returns, and then understand how the outer function uses that return, because this inside-out reading strategy makes even complex formulae legible rather than intimidating. Pivot table teaching in my lessons always begins with a specific analytical question the student needs to answer from a dataset, then shows how the pivot table answers it, because learning table mechanics in service of a genuine question produces far more durable understanding than building pivot tables as abstract exercises. Power Query is positioned as a prerequisite to data analysis rather than an advanced bonus — I introduce it as soon as students have basic formula confidence because automated data cleaning saves enormous time and prevents the manual errors that corrupt analysis. My VBA teaching is project-based from the first lesson, with students writing macros that actually automate something they genuinely find tedious. My teaching goal is a student who is significantly more productive in Excel by the end of the first session.
