Key Lesson Plan Diagnostic Questioning: I don't just check if you have the right answer. I ask how you arrived at it. This reveals gaps in logic or understanding that we can address directly. Building from First Principles: We will break down complex topics into their most basic, undeniable truths. This prevents rote memorization and allows you to reconstruct and understand any derivative concept. Real-World Analogies: I frequently use analogies and metaphors to relate abstract concepts to everyday experiences. This makes intimidating topics feel familiar and manageable. Active Recall & Spaced Repetition: Our sessions will be interactive, requiring you to retrieve information actively. I will guide you in structuring your revision using proven techniques that move knowledge from your short-term to your long-term memory. A Typical Lesson Plan A session with me, Matthew, is a collaborative workshop, not a lecture. A typical plan follows this flexible structure: The Warm-Up (5 minutes): We'll start with a quick review of the previous lesson's key concepts. This solidifies the learning and creates a bridge to new material. Setting the Agenda (5 minutes): You will tell me what you'd like to focus on today. What did you find most challenging this week? This ensures our time is spent on what matters most to you. Core Concept Breakdown (20-25 minutes): This is the heart of the lesson. We'll take the target concept and deconstruct it. I will use a whiteboard to map out ideas visually, and we will work through a core example together, with me asking guiding questions at every step. Guided Practice (15-20 minutes): Now, you will drive. I will give you a progressively challenging problem to solve, talking me through your thought process. My role here is to provide subtle hints and prevent you from going down unproductive paths, building your confidence and independence. Summary & Forward Plan (5 minutes): We will summarize the one or two most important takeaways from the session. I will then suggest specific follow-up tasks or topics to glance at before our next meeting, creating a clear path for continuous progress.
