About Negar

I have experience as a teaching assistant for music theory at Temple University. I have been teaching labs and aural theory, and tutoring students one-on-one.

I am originally a pianist and composer, hence, I approach and teach music theory as an applied discipline with respect to aural theory.

About the lesson

As your tutor, my first step is to understand your musical goals. Whether you aim to master college-level theory or begin with high school concepts, I tailor a lesson plan specifically for you. My approach is structured yet flexible, adapting to your unique learning pace and interests.

** Teaching Method and Techniques:

My teaching hinges on a structured progression from foundational knowledge to advanced concepts, ensuring a solid understanding before moving forward. I employ a variety of techniques including interactive exercises, practical applications of theory to playing, and analytical listening sessions to enrich your learning experience.

** Typical Lesson Plan

Level 1:
Introduction to music notation, basic terms, and rhythms, focusing on building your ability to read music.

Level 2:
Dives into intervals, scales, and key signatures, reinforced through extensive practice.

Level 3:
Explores four-part harmony and diatonic harmonic analysis, enhancing your analytical skills.

Level 4:
Unveils the complexities of chromatic harmony, preparing you for advanced musical understanding.

Special Focus: Lessons dedicated to musical form and analysis, tailored to your interests and needs.

**Why work together?

I have experience instructing music theory at college. My teaching is not a one-size-fits-all method. I am committed to personalizing your musical education, ensuring lessons are engaging, comprehensive, and directly aligned with your aspirations. My background in both performance and theory allows me to offer insights that bridge technical skills with expressive musicianship.

** Who the Lessons Are For?

These lessons are ideal for students of all levels—from complete beginners to advanced musicians looking to deepen their understanding of music theory. Whether you're preparing for academic exams, enhancing your musicianship, or exploring music theory for personal growth, I am here to support your journey.

Let's embark on this musical adventure together, crafting a learning experience that not only meets but exceeds your expectations.
