About Dan

I Began studying music at the age of 8, I’ve started first with classical music achieving a Piano Bachelor with the highest marks of the session. During my studies besides Classical Music I've been focusing my interest and enthusiasm on jazz music. Until today I've worked as Classical and jazz Pianist, composer and session musician in Europe, USA and UK. I’ve always been teaching privately classical and jazz music, Theory, Harmony, composition and improvisation. I’ve started teaching to my students my own idea of music and my personal approach with the instrument, trying always to encourage and stimulate their own musical unicity as I have done and I still do with myself.

I believe that any teacher must have a specific approach with students in order to analyse, investigate, focus and then just guide their personal attitude for the music. I believe that everyone has this attitude. It’s in our decision, desire, willingness and passion to find it in order to express without any type of constriction.

Find out more about Dan

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

My Mother is a professional pianist. When I was a child I used to listen to her playing Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Brahms and so many more. I was five years old and I still remember that period as a magnificent dream.
My Dad has been working as an actor and he has always been talking about the relationship between music and acting. He introduced me to Classical and Jazz Records and so that became my youth's soundtrack.
Soon I started playing the piano on my own and taking piano lessons until my Bachelor's Degree at 20 years old.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

It always depends on specific periods of my life.
As a personal pleasure, I usually listen to any kind of music.
Based on my personal experience I have noticed that for a few years, I have been focusing on the same classical composers or jazz pianists in order to get a deeper understanding of their music. That's a more analytical approach, in order to try to grasp the mystery of their compositions.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

Probably the most difficult and riveting aspect is indicating to every student their own listening. We love music because when we listen, something hidden inside ourselves is getting pleasure from that, in a certain way it works as a resonance, the same one present and necessary in every instrument.
Sometimes practising doesn't allow our unconscious and inner voice to be present as too many tasks are involved in our brain and usually I feel it is my duty to remind all my students to listen to themselves.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I believe that every instrument could be as easy as difficult to play. I certainly believe that the most enjoyable and difficult thing for a musician is expressing their inner voice through any instruments.
  • What are your keys to success?

Success is in the present. I believe that musicians are successful when they are able to express the unknown and the unconscious of themselves through their instruments.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Surely Gustav Mahler as I would have a few questions about his orchestration. Beethoven as I would be fascinated in seeing and listening to him playing and improvising with piano. Bill Evans just to have a talk about all his different ways to harmonise a simple sequence of chords.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

In a dream, someone played a piece for me and he told me that I could find that piece in a book which I forgot the title of.
When I woke up I remembered the song but not the name of the piece nor the name of the book. I then composed the song and called it "Remembrance".
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

    Love for what I do.
