About Tumi
I have been passionate about singing since the age of five, beginning my journey in musical theater and honing my skills through vocal lessons with a variety of coaches, including operatic singers. My foundation was built through years of performing in choirs, starting in middle school and continuing through high school and now in my college choir. Over time, I developed an interest in R&B music and ventured into songwriting, which challenged me to adapt my classically trained voice to a more contemporary style. To achieve this, I sought out contemporary vocal coaches who helped me transition and refine my technique for R&B, a process I continue to this day. This diverse training has shaped my voice into a versatile instrument, capable of classical precision and modern expression. Having learned from an array of talented coaches with unique approaches, I aim to share the knowledge and experience I’ve gained to help others discover their voice and unlock their full potential as singers.

My approach as a vocal tutor is personalized and goal-oriented, tailored to meet each singer's unique aspirations and challenges. We begin by discussing your goals as a singer to understand what you want to achieve, whether it’s mastering a specific genre, improving vocal range, or building performance confidence. Next, I assess your current vocal strengths and areas for improvement, identifying specific challenges to address. Weekly lessons include customized vocal warmups, ear training, and exercises focused on vocal placement, resonance, and singing from the diaphragm, while minimizing jaw tension and developing healthy singing habits. Together, we’ll mimic various singers to explore and refine your style, helping you find your unique voice. Lessons are a blend of technical work, creative exploration, and song application, with progress tracked through feedback and tailored assignments. Whether you're a beginner, aspiring professional, or preparing for auditions, my supportive and innovative teaching methods help singers at any level grow and thrive.
