About Fiona Jessica

I'm a professional soprano, experienced teacher and communication coach with a lifelong passion for the human voice - and a firm belief that singing should be for everyone.

My career has taken me from the concert platform and recording studio to classrooms, lecture theatres and cruise ships. As a soprano, my recordings include In Paradisum, composed by Ben Robbins and featured in the BBC drama Broken; Ave Maria featured in The West Wing; and adverts including VW Polo and The Voice. I've also performed extensively and worked with singers and speakers of different ages, abilities and backgrounds.

Alongside my performing career, I've spent many years teaching, helping people develop not only their technical skills but, perhaps more importantly, their confidence.

And that's where my real passion lies.

I believe we spend far too much of our lives being told what we can and cannot do. Somewhere along the way, many people decide they 'can't sing' - often because of something someone said to them years ago.

I would love to change that.

My approach combines professional vocal technique with warmth, encouragement, humour and an understanding of the connection between singing, confidence and wellbeing.

Whether you're a complete beginner, someone returning to singing after decades, or an experienced singer wanting to develop your voice, my lessons are tailored entirely to you.

I'm particularly passionate about helping adults who have always wanted to sing but have never quite dared to try.

You don't need to read music. You don't need any previous experience. And you certainly don't need to audition!

You just need a little curiosity and a willingness to give it a go.

My philosophy is simple: you don't have to be a singer to sing.

And sometimes, finding your singing voice can help you find your confidence in all sorts of other ways.

Have you always wanted to sing, but secretly wondered whether you're 'good enough'?

Perhaps you were told years ago that you couldn't sing. Maybe you used to sing and would love to start again. Or perhaps you simply want something joyful in your week that is entirely for you.

I believe that singing is for everyone.

I'm a professional soprano, performer and experienced teacher, and my approach is rather different from the traditional singing lesson. Yes, we'll work on breathing, vocal technique, range, posture and producing a freer, more confident sound - but just as importantly, we'll work on enjoying your voice.

There are no auditions, no judgement and no expectation that you want to become a professional singer.

You might want to sing musical theatre, classical music, songs from the shows, something contemporary - or simply discover what your voice can do.

Who are my lessons for?

I particularly welcome:

complete beginners

adults returning to singing after many years

people who have always believed they 'can't sing'

nervous or self-conscious singers

people who want to develop confidence in their voice

singers who want to reconnect with the sheer enjoyment of singing

more experienced singers wanting help with performance, interpretation and vocal confidence

My professional background as a singer is complemented by many years as a teacher, language and communication coach and public-speaking trainer. This means I'm particularly interested in the connection between breath, voice, confidence, communication and self-expression.

What happens in a lesson?

Every lesson is tailored to you.

We'll usually begin with breathing, relaxation and gentle vocal exercises before exploring your voice through songs that you actually want to sing.

Along the way we can work on:

breathing and breath control

vocal freedom and reducing unnecessary tension

range

pitch

tone and resonance

diction

interpretation and storytelling

performance confidence

simply becoming comfortable with the sound of your own voice

And we will sing!

My aim isn't to turn everybody into a professional singer.

It's to help you discover the voice you already have - and enjoy using it.

You don't have to be a singer to sing.

Come and find your voice.
