Hola, me llamo Laura ¡encantada de conocerte!
I’m an architectural designer and a professional medical and community interpreter and translator for more than 10 years, during which I have honed my communication skills and ability to establish rapport with people of all ages and backgrounds.
I’m passionate about communication, language, and culture and firmly believe that learning a language is not only about mastering grammar and vocabulary, but also a process of understanding and appreciating its culture and nuances.
As a native Spanish speaker from the north of South America (Venezuela), I'm deeply connected to my language and culture and strive to share that connection with my students. I approach teaching and tutoring with patience, empathy, and readiness to adapt to each student's unique needs and learning style.
My approach to teaching/tutoring Spanish is to create a safe space where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and making mistakes without fear of judgment. I strive to make the learning environment inclusive and non-judgmental by acknowledging and valuing the diversity of each student's background and learning style.
I believe in taking an exploratory approach to teaching Spanish, encouraging my students to ask questions and to take an active role in their own learning process. I try to make the lessons fun and engaging by using a variety of activities and materials that appeal to different interests and learning styles. Overall, my goal is to make learning Spanish an enjoyable and rewarding experience for each of my students.

As a tutor, my teaching method and techniques are centered around the individual needs of each student. I start by assessing the student's current level of understanding and tailor the lessons accordingly. My approach includes a combination of grammar exercises, reading comprehension, writing exercises, and conversational practice. I believe that engaging the student in conversation is a critical component of language learning, so I try to incorporate it as much as possible.
A typical lesson plan starts with a brief review of previous material, followed by introducing new concepts and vocabulary. I provide practice exercises to reinforce the new material, and we finish with a conversation practice. Homework assignments are given at the end of each lesson to reinforce the material.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my extensive experience as a medical interpreter and translator. This background has honed my attention to detail and ability to convey information accurately and effectively. Additionally, my experience teaching young children has taught me to be patient, flexible, and creative in my teaching approach.
My lessons are for people of all ages, from kindergarten to adult learners, with a particular emphasis on beginners and intermediate learners. I can teach general Spanish or tailor the lessons to specific needs such as medical terminology or business Spanish.
