About Rita
My name is Rita Anaka, and I live in Washington DC. I am 61 years old, and I belong to a religious Order of the Daughters of Divine Love. I am a professional chaplain for 15 years, and a substitute teacher in public schools in Washington DC. I have my master's degree in both theological ethics and Social studies education K-12, and my areas of focus: history, civics and geography for middle and high school students. Before now, I taught fifth graders for six years in Africa. I have been in administrative role for couple of years before I found myself in United States of America 16 years ago.

I was fifth grade teacher long time ago. I went back for teacher education. I just finished my professional training this year March, and would be graduating this month. I am a substitute teacher in Washington public schools for over two years.
My teaching approach: I assume this is my first time in this class or with this student:
I begin with getting the students attention, gather information about students previous knowledge on the topic of the day. I give them time to research and come up with their created knowledge around the new topic. After then we begin with essential questions that will give them an insight into the new topic. Divide the students into three groups to discuss the essential questions. When they come back to the larger group, each group present their findings. I give them time to recess for five minutes and come back for teacher's input on the topic.
