About Tam

I have tutored English for the past 4 years both privately and through tutoring services.
I am currently finishing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with specialities in Forensic and Pre-counselling. I have a love for all areas of humanities, social sciences and English.

About the lesson

I am a mature student, having returned to school after almost 10 years as I found balancing college with a full time job very overwhelming as a teenager. A few years ago I was diagnosed with ADHD which brought a lot of clarity to the internal struggles I had with school despite being high achieving throughout my academic career.
I try to utilize all aspects of my experiences and education when I am teaching. My background in psychology helps me to understand why someone may or may not succeed with different types of learning environments or certain tools. As such, I try to always keep an open mind and listen when a student says something isn’t working for them. A big part of being successful in school is learning to work with our abilities and not against them. Just because something is normally done one way doesn’t mean it’s the only way or the best way for every learner.
Getting to know and understand my student and their needs, strengths and struggles is immensely important to me. Along with an understanding their specific goals, knowing about their particular experiences allows me to tailor my teaching style to best support them as individuals. My hope is that the skills i help them develop to learn their current coursework are not only specific to that, but can be helpful tools in their learning in all areas of study and in life.

Generally my rates are
$35/hr up to and including 6th grade
$40/hr for 7th through 11th grade and Conversational English lessons
$50+/hr for 12th Grade through post secondary depending on the services and subject
