About Alec
Hi! I'm Alec, an undergraduate student at UBCO with a genuine love for language and storytelling. I enjoy working with younger learners and have experience in supervised settings with kids, so I know how to make things feel approachable and fun rather than overwhelming.
I take the time to understand how each student learns best and adjust from there. Sessions are encouraging and go at the student's pace. Whether a child is building reading confidence or working on their writing, I'm happy to help.
I'm reliable, friendly, and genuinely invested in making each lesson a good experience. Looking forward to connecting!

Teaching methodology and techniques:
I focus on making language feel natural and enjoyable rather than intimidating. With younger learners I use storytelling, creative writing prompts, and reading aloud to build confidence and engagement. I adapt to each child's pace and learning style, using positive reinforcement and lots of encouragement.
A typical lesson plan:
A session might start with a short reading exercise, followed by a discussion about what we read to build comprehension and vocabulary. We'd then move into a creative or written activity, like continuing a story or writing about something they care about, and finish with something fun like a word game or drawing a scene from a book.
What sets me apart:
I'm patient, genuinely curious, and I remember what it felt like to be a young learner. I don't talk down to kids. I meet them where they are and make them feel capable.
