About Leisa
It'd be my pleasure to speak with you. If we are not a good fit, I hope I can help you figure out a more appropriate option. If you'd like to confer with some references about my knowledge on a subject, my style of teaching, my personality, or how pleased a student was after working with me, then I will kindly share. At 13 years old, I was hired by a family to tutor their elementary-aged daughter and I have been doing some kind of tutoring ever since. I have experience with using pre-made curricula, developing my own curricula, and teaching according to student interests. Language is very interesting to me - foreign language, play on words, semantics, phonetics, accents, culture, etc. Spanish was my major in college, while Japanese was one of my minors. Also, I have dabbled in Italian, German, and Hebrew. As an English teacher, I have taught English to non-native speakers privately and at the University of Oklahoma. Most recently I have taught English to native-speaking students from ages 4-14 years old.

I have tutored/taught a variety of subjects at a variety of levels to students a variety of ages. One of my favorite jobs was teaching ESL at the University of Oklahoma. I also enjoyed doing medical interpreting.
My ideal student doesn't fit a geographic region or age group. My ideal student is one who is excited to learn. Teaching those who WANT to learn is exciting. However, I have had a lot of JOY teaching students who were struggling and once they figured something out and the light bulb clicked on - poof! - their smile and confidence was a gift to me.
As far as lessons go, that's individualized. For example:
- if you'd like to follow a curriculum, then I can easily support the material with my knowledge and personal experience
- if you need to review previous material, then I hope to explain it in a way that connects with you
- if you are interest led, then I can tailor the lessons around your interest
-if you are a home-schooled student, then I'd work along with your parents to help meet goals
