About Lainey

Hello students and advocates of students,

I, like many of you, have spent a majority of my life in school, and while it is beneficial and a privilege to have the opportunity...sometimes it can be very difficult, or even just dull. I know many of you having been working hard towards a goal, and I would love the opportunity to be a part of that journey.

Throughout my educational journey I did manage to get very good grades, and (eventually) reach my goal of graduating with a Bachelors degree; however, these achievements did not come easy, and like many of you I sought out resources like tutors to help me reach the finish line.

I was a rambunctious student, usually more focused on trying to live my most adventurous life than going to class and study groups. I also was hesitant to acknowledge attributes such as ADHD that prevented me from fully benefiting from the education I was receiving. In my later years I worked with my teachers and professors to adapt my assignments and exams to my learning style and fit my life as a busy mother, adventure enthusiast, and accident prone human.

My goal as an educator and tutor is to make a flexible education obtainable for any student willing to put in the work. I understand many of you have your own education stories and I hope if I get the opportunity to work with you that we can make it enriching, maybe enjoyable (or at least less painful).

I have a bachelor's degree in English, literature, with an emphasis in education. My goal was to pursue full time teaching, however I decided to step back from obtaining my teacher's license to fully invest in the grass roots of my blossoming family. In the mean time I have been a teacher assistant in many classrooms k-12, worked in the writing centers with young college students, and have had publications in various genres such as poetry and research.

I would love the opportunity to make English a more enjoyable subject to anyone willing, or at least help a fellow student in finishing the class and moving on to subjects they are more interested in.

About the lesson

During my degree I emphasized my study in education,during which time, I learned about childhood psychology and tools to help any age group of student retain the information they were learning, apply it in real life situations, and enjoy the process. I also dedicated an enormous amount of time studying educational techniques to help a diverse group of students, whether it be learning styles, different cultural backgrounds or worldviews, students adding English as a second language to their unique cultural story, students who may have many resources and students who may want help obtaining resources to advance their education. My educational philosophy is to enjoy learning, and find a way to make any subject enjoyable to the student, even if that means changing the teaching style. The information is not important if it is never learned and applied, putting the student and their needs first is my main goal. I have had experience with many age groups, anywhere from ABC's with toddlers, to college students with lengthy research papers. I truly enjoy what each experience brings!
