About Talya
Although I am a published author, essayist, and playwright, I would like to reiterate; I am not just a teacher. I am a collaborator in your education. I struggled in school because I had very few teachers who were willing to ask me why I wasn't understanding something. My goal is to understand what makes your brain tick, and how we can use that to strengthen your academic performance. Most students memorize material and then immediately forget it when the test is over. I want to emphasize retention and skill growth, as well as foster a connection to the material you're learning.

Every student is different, which means every tutoring session will be different. My goal is to tailor a session to the student, not the other way around. My teaching procedures? Asking what the student is working on in class and assessing their strengths and weaknesses in regard to what they are studying. After gathering information, asking what the student doesn't understand or needs help explaining. If it is essay-based, then teaching structural writing methods that set the student up for success. If it is understanding-based, then figuring out ways to help a student interpret and understand the material provided. Who lessons are for? Generally, I stick to 6th grade-12th grade English and writing classes, adhering to pre-AP or AP curriculums. I am particularly adept in rhetorical analysis and literary analysis, which appear on AP tests. However, I am well versed in teaching those enrolled in on-level subjects as well. What sets me apart? I have a background in communication and collaboration. I am not tutoring just to make an extra buck, but to genuinely strengthen the minds of adolescents and young adults.
