About Deborah

My name is Deborah Harriet, I'm an independent author currently based in Montreal. I was born and raised in Ottawa and recently began pursuing a master's degree in Economics at Concordia University. Writing has always been one of the ways I process life's deepest emotions, and poetry has become a space where I can explore themes of love, grief, healing, identity, and hope. Through my work, I hope readers feel seen, understood, and reminded that beauty can exist even in our most difficult seasons.

My approach as a tutor is student-centered, supportive, and adaptable. I believe that students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions and are encouraged to actively participate in the learning process. I first identify the student’s current level of understanding, learning style, strengths, and areas that need improvement. From there, I adjust my teaching methods to meet their individual needs.

My teaching methodology combines clear explanations, worked examples, guided practice, and independent exercises. When teaching a difficult concept, I break it down into smaller, manageable steps and use practical examples to make the material easier to understand. I also encourage students to explain concepts back to me in their own words, which helps confirm their understanding and identify areas that may need further clarification.

A typical lesson begins with a brief review of previous material and an assessment of any questions or challenges the student has encountered. We then introduce or review the main topic for the session, followed by examples and guided practice. I gradually allow the student to take the lead by working through problems independently while providing support when needed. I usually end the lesson with a summary of the key concepts covered and recommendations for practice before the next session.

What sets me apart as a tutor is my combination of academic knowledge, professional training experience, and patience. I have experience tutoring independently through platforms such as Superprof, as well as training mental health professionals at Health Canada and supervising volunteers at Diabetes Canada. These experiences have taught me how to communicate information clearly, adapt to different levels of understanding, and create an encouraging learning environment.
