About Hafsa
I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Social and Developmental Psychology and Literature from Bennington College. I've worked widely in the publishing industry as well as a social science researcher, successfully co-authoring and publishing two psychology research papers (in the American Journal of Community Psychology and Trauma, Violence, Abuse) along with a book chapter on adolescent mental health which is forthcoming in The Encyclopedia of Mental Health, 3rd edition (Elsevier). My undergraduate thesis in psychology examined international students' sense of belonging at American colleges and included qualitative primary research, culminating into a 73pg paper. Thus, I'm familiar and well-versed in research paper writing, editing, citation styles, primary research organization, and data management. My poetry (nominated for the Pushcart Prize) and prose have been published or are forthcoming in several literary journals/magazines too such as The Offing, Columbia Journal, Up the Staircase Quarterly, Pidgeonholes, and elsewhere. I've taken multiple advanced poetry workshops at college and literary organizations like Kundiman and Brooklyn Poets. My work in the publishing industry has helped me polish my editorial skills and has trained me to offer valuable editorial feedback for poetry and prose alike. I've taught a one-year college course and helped students transition to college life via career workshops. I was a writing tutor as well as a student career assistant for two years at Bennington and assisted students with their writing endeavors from essays for classes, personal statements for grad school to grant applications, resume and cover letter writing, and creative work. My teaching method has empathy and research at its core along with personalized learning.

I'm confident in my ability to teach psychology, social science research and thesis writing as well as research methods (qualitative and quantitative). After the first free consultation, I will collaborate with the student to determine their needs, goals, and aspirations and tailor a syllabus for them accordingly. My goal is to create a judgment-free, empathetic environment, and for the student to leave with confidence in their craft and writing project.

Hafsa is an incredibly thoughtful and dedicated teacher. Her support and patience make her not only a great student resource but a mentor as well. Her critical feedback is both clear and constructive, always aiming to push students to generate their best work.
As her former fellow student in university, I have known Hafsa to be very helpful, a booklover and someone with a strong grasp on English language. She has also been a writing tutor and an educational leader for her fellow students where she was extremely insightful, understandable and prepared towards them. I highly recommend her :)
Hafsa prioritizes the student’s demands and knows how to push them and comes up with ways for them excel and achieve their academic goals. I don’t think I could have passed or even thought about giving my SAT if it wasn’t for her lessons and tips and her constant support. Hands down the only person who could have been patient enough to teach me in a way that I truly understand.
Hafsa is a brilliant poet and an equally talented social science academic. Her patience and well-detailed feedback made me confident in my essay writing and citation skills. She’ll always be my go to tutor whenever I need sound but empathic academic support!
