About Yume
I am an alumni from San Francisco State University, where I earned both an MA in English and an MFA in Creative Writing. I have 7 years of tutoring and teaching experience. I have taught a wide range of students from different backgrounds. I was a Reading/Writing/Study Skills tutor for the Learning Assistance Center at San Francisco State University during my graduate studies. Right after I graduated in 2015, I had briefly worked as both a SAT prep tutor and proofreader for C2 Education before being hired as a Reading/Writing instructor for both De Anza College and The Art Institute of California - SF campus. Currently, I am still employed at De Anza College but I primarily work as both a tutorial assistant and as a non-instructional faculty assistant for the Disability Support Services department.

I specialize in assisting students with their essay writing skills. I often try to incorporate lessons where students are able to find ways in further developing their critical reading and writing skills in order to help them improve as writers. This includes vocabulary building exercises, as well as free-writing activities where students have opportunities to practice writing out their thoughts and ideas.
As an educator, I aim in providing an engaging and innovative learning environment with a student-centered approach. I also make an effort in making sure that every lesson is accommodating and accessible to all diverse learners. I am also open to any feedback or suggestions from students I work with in order to ensure an effective and comfortable learning experience.
