My approach is structured, exam-focused, and tailored to each student’s needs. I break down complex legal principles into clear, digestible concepts and focus heavily on applying the law to problem questions, a key skill for both the Bar and SQE exams. I use practical examples, targeted revision techniques, and regular feedback to build confidence and exam readiness. Lessons are typically 60–90 minutes, depending on the student’s goals and focus areas. I’m a Barrister called to the Bar of England and Wales, with a Distinction in the Bar course, and I have experience tutoring law students across core modules and vocational training. My lessons are ideal for aspiring barristers or solicitors preparing for the Bar course or SQE (SQE1 & SQE2), as well as LLB or GDL students looking to strengthen their legal understanding and exam technique. I support students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Find out more about Bilal

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in law began long before my formal studies. I was always fascinated by how
justice operates in practice and how principles on paper translate into real-world outcomes
that affect people’s lives. This curiosity deepened during my legal studies and practical
experiences, especially when I used to attend the court with my father. I developed an
interest in private tutoring because I realised how transformative quality guidance can be.
Having gone through the intensity of Bar and SQE preparation myself, I wanted to make the
process clearer and more manageable for others pursuing the same path.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach subjects related to the LLB, GDL, Bar and Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE),
particularly Dispute Resolution, Criminal Litigation, Wills and probate, Business law, Land
Law, Property law, Solicitors Accounts and professional conduct. I enjoy discussing topics
that reveal the strategic side of law and how legal principles interact with procedural rules
to shape outcomes in real cases. I particularly like exploring advocacy techniques, evidential
rules, and case strategy. There are few topics I like less, but I would say that overly
mechanical or purely administrative aspects of legal study sometimes lack the intellectual
challenge that drew me to law.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you

I am inspired by teachings of life in general and I believe that one should never keep the
knowledge to themselves alone and should spread the good word. One of my lecturers
during my LLB Hons had a profound impact on my approach to both learning and teaching.
He combined clarity with passion, and his emphasis on critical thinking and structure
helped me see law not just as a set of rules, but as a discipline that demands reasoning,
empathy, and communication. That experience motivated me to bring the same energy and
    precision to my own teaching.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs clarity, empathy, and adaptability. Clarity ensures complex ideas are
made simple without losing their depth. Empathy allows a tutor to connect with students’
challenges and help them overcome obstacles. Adaptability is essential because no two
students learn the same way. I also believe patience and genuine enthusiasm are key that
students sense when a tutor truly cares about their progress.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school

During my Bar studies, I remember preparing for a particularly difficult advocacy
assessment. I was nervous and overthinking every word. My instructor told me, 'Stop
performing the law and start living it.' That advice changed everything, it taught me to
internalise arguments and focus on persuasion rather than performance. I now share that
same message with my students when they’re preparing for advocacy or oral assessments.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One of the biggest challenges in law is managing the balance between vast content and
limited time. The SQE and Bar courses test not only knowledge but also exam technique and
endurance. Another challenge is keeping up with constant legal developments; the law
never stands still. As a tutor, I continuously update my materials to reflect the most current
    rules, cases, and procedures.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Alongside practicing law, my passion lies in teaching and mentoring aspiring lawyers.
There’s something uniquely rewarding about seeing a student grasp a complex topic or gain
confidence in their advocacy. Beyond law, I’m also deeply interested in legal writing and
research, particularly how legal systems adapt to modern challenges like international
arbitration and immigration law. These areas allow me to combine academic interest with
    practical legal insights.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

What makes me a Superprof is my commitment to every student’s individual journey. I
tailor my sessions to suit each student’s strengths and learning style, whether they’re
preparing for Bar exams, SQE assessments, or professional interviews. My approach blends
exam-focused precision with real-world legal insight. Most importantly, I care deeply about
my students’ success, their progress is my biggest motivation.
