About John
I have worked in a variety of education settings since qualifying as a secondary English teacher in 2018; ranging from mainstream academies to alternative provisions and pupil referral units. Due to this, I have experience delivering to a huge range of needs, backgrounds, demographics and levels in challenging circumstances. Since qualifying, I have also trained in careers guidance and mental health support as well as phonics and literacy strategies. At my previous role, I was the literacy co-ordinator for the entire provision and I also led on careers guidance. Since 2019, I have regularly delivered 1 to 1 tuition sessions on Literature and Language to KS4 and above. I have had multiple students increase by 2-3 levels during their time with me. I have a relaxed but focused approach that will allow you to do your best and enjoy it.

I believe the best way to learn is to discover your own passion and interests, in turn discovering something about yourself, through the written word. I combine exam specification skills with a mixture of creative and technical exercises designed to build your confidence and abilities in writing, reading, oracy and critical thinking. I create bespoke lessons for each learner, generally between 45 minutes-90 minutes however longer/shorter sessions can be arranged. I cater for ages 11+, KS3 and above however I am also trained in phonics and teaching English as a second language to post-16 students.
