About Matthew
I am an experienced college maths lecturer, specialising in GCSE and Level 3 Maths for secondary school and post-16 students. I am passionate about helping students build confidence, develop strong problem-solving skills, and achieve excellent results.

My teaching approach focuses on building strong mathematical understanding, confidence, and problem-solving skills. As a college maths lecturer, I use clear explanations, step-by-step methods, and practical examples to ensure students grasp concepts rather than just memorise procedures. I often use acronyms and visualisations to help students remember key concepts and see abstract ideas in a concrete way. Techniques include worked examples, guided practice, exam-style questions, and regular checks for understanding. I also emphasise exam technique, showing students how to structure answers, avoid common mistakes, and manage their time effectively. Complex topics are broken down into smaller, manageable steps to make learning easier and less overwhelming.
A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, although longer sessions can be arranged if needed. Lessons usually begin with a review of previous topics, followed by new material, guided practice, and independent exercises to reinforce learning.
