About Angus
I am a qualified teacher of Religious and Moral Education in Scotland, with experience teaching RME/RMPS and several years’ experience working in assessment for English A-level Religious Studies. I now teach theology and ethics in a Christian further education college and I am also undertaking doctoral research in theology.
I enjoy tutoring because Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethics are not just about learning information: they are about understanding the big questions, weighing up different arguments, and learning how to express your own thinking clearly. Many students know more than they realise, but struggle to organise their ideas, evaluate properly, or turn their knowledge into strong exam answers. That is where I can help.
I aim to be calm, clear and encouraging. My goal is to help students grow in confidence, understand difficult topics more deeply, and improve the quality of their written work. I can support students with course content, essay planning, exam technique, evaluation, revision, and feedback on written answers.
I offer tutoring for National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher RMPS, GCSE and A-level Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethics, and undergraduate-level theology or religious studies support.

My approach is patient, clear and student-centred. I help students understand the subject deeply, but also learn how to express that understanding clearly in essays and exams.
In lessons, I normally begin by identifying where the student feels least confident — whether that is understanding a topic, structuring an essay, evaluating arguments, using evidence, or preparing for an exam question. I then break the issue down into manageable steps, explain the key ideas clearly, and work with the student to practise applying them.
For Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies, Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethics, I focus especially on helping students understand the arguments, compare different viewpoints, and write with clarity and precision. I also help students improve essay structure, develop stronger evaluation, and answer the question that has actually been asked.
A typical lesson is 60 minutes, though shorter or longer sessions may be possible depending on the student’s needs. Lessons can include topic explanation, discussion, exam-question practice, essay planning, feedback on written work, or revision support.
