About Ruby
I graduated from the University of York in 2020 with an upper second class honours BSc in chemistry, specifying in biological and medicinal chemistry. I have tutored chemistry and maths for over 4 years and I am also experienced at teaching and communicating virtually. I completed my dissertation researching a type of personalized cancer treatment which inhibits a critical part of the cancer cell growth cycle. I believe that chemistry is an integral subject which combines all of the sciences to explain many of the fundamental principles in science. I have a PGCE with QTS to teach secondary science, specialising in chemistry. I would love to share my passion for science and help you to achieve high grades in your exams by finding the right method of learning for you!

I teach GCSE and A-level chemistry. In my tutorials, I will spend the first half explaining the topic, particularly tackling any particular issues that the student would like to go through with this topic. In the next half of the session, we will go through past exam questions together and the student can ask me any questions that they may have from work set in the classroom. I will prepare the tutorials in advance with the aim of including helpful diagrams, notes and examples to go through in the sessions, I also include a copy of the specification for that topic, highlighting any key points. I set a couple of homework questions after the tutorial sessions in order to consolidate what we covered in the session. I will include my copy of the answers, but if they have any questions or problems we can sort them out in the next tutorial. Where possible, I will also try and give some ‘real life context’ to topics and questions, in order to demonstrate their importance and to inspire my students!
