About Bob

With over a decade of career experience in education as a primary school teacher, private tutor, EHE Advisory Teacher, and currently within further education, my journey has been marked by a steadfast commitment to excellence and a deep-rooted passion for nurturing the potential of every student. I strive to be an outstanding teacher, leader and role model.

Following my PGCE qualification, I embarked on my teaching career with a firm grasp of the principles that underpin effective teaching and learning. Over the years, I've had the privilege of working in diverse educational settings, from traditional classrooms to individualised learning environments, honing my skills as an adaptable and versatile educator.

As a seasoned classroom practitioner, I've encountered a myriad of teaching challenges and opportunities, each of which has contributed to my growth and development as a teacher. Whether it's devising differentiated/adaptive lesson plans to meet the needs of diverse learners (including those with SEND and high needs), implementing innovative teaching methodologies to enhance student engagement, or building a supportive classroom culture conducive to learning, I approach each day with a passion for making a positive impact on the lives of students. To be an outstanding teacher requires that I have a secure understanding and implementation of contemporary educational theories and methodologies that support high achievement and attainment. For example: the move from differentiation to adaptive teaching; recognising SEMH needs; inquiry-based learning; technology integration; and culturally responsive pedagogy.

I am primary trained and have several years of experience teaching all KS1 and KS2 year groups (as a class teacher and HLTA). I teach in accordance with the notion that high quality teaching and learning is characterised by an engaging, learner-centred approach that caters to diverse learning needs and encourages active participation and critical thinking. I believe dynamic and supportive learning environments should be in place to promote collaboration, inquiry, and reflection, while also providing timely feedback and scaffolding to support student progress and achievement. I possess excellent numeracy and literacy skills, having achieved A grades in Maths and English Language at GCSE level. My extensive knowledge of the KS1 and KS2 national curriculum enables me to design and implement effective and engaging lessons that align with educational standards and objectives. In a further education college I taught Maths and English Functional Skills Entry 3 and Level 1, as well as Personal Development sessions, to a class of 16+ SEND learners.

I have taught maths for many years and last year started a social media account wherein I uploaded KS3/GCSE maths tutorials. I am familiar with the White Rose mastery-based schemes of learning having used them to guide my Maths private tutoring. Also, as a private tutor, I had the opportunity to help prepare students for 11+ entry exams. I taught Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, English and Maths. I believe in employing a diverse range of teaching strategies tailored to accommodate various learning styles, ensuring inclusivity, deep understanding and personalised learning. By integrating real-world problem-solving tasks, I aim to contextualise mathematical principles; promoting critical thinking skills crucial for everyday life. I recognise the importance of adaptive teaching methods, constantly assessing student progress and adjusting my approach accordingly to meet their evolving needs. Through a blend of traditional instruction, innovative techniques, and adaptive teaching, I strive to ignite a passion for maths and equip students with the skills and confidence to excel academically and beyond. I am adept at identifying gaps in learning and ensuring specific concepts are revisited before attempting to move forward.

My teaching methodology for Maths focuses on personalised learning, adapting to each student's unique needs and learning style. A typical lesson begins with a brief review of previous material, followed by interactive discussions on new concepts. I incorporate practical exercises and real-world applications to make abstract Maths principles relatable and engaging. Clear communication, immediate feedback, and progress tracking are integral parts of my approach to ensure comprehensive understanding. I help students build confidence and develop critical problem-solving skills. My goal is to make Maths enjoyable and accessible, ensuring each student reaches their full potential.
