About Michael
I graduated from Oxford with first-class honours in Modern Languages (German, French), and taught for three years in a grammar school in Kent. I then trained for Christian ministry and served as a pastor in the Baptist Church until my retirement in 2023. During those years I maintained my enthusiasm for language, and in retirement, I have worked as a supply teacher of French in secondary schools, as well as offering personal tuition in German.

I aim to help those who want to improve their German and/or French language skills, whether they are working towards an exam or just wanting to learn another language. I want above all to help pupils to make sense of grammar as the nuts and bolts of a living language, rather than the abstract technicality that it can so often seem. Lessons will be tailored to the needs of individual pupils, but aiming for a balance between explanation and practice, and between reading, writing and speaking. I can be particularly helpful to those studying at school, college, or university, but who feel they would benefit from some extra language tuition.
