About Murphy

Meet Murphy Irehovbude - fondly called, "Prof" by family and acquaintances due to his study culture. As a passionate teacher and content writer, he does wonders with words. He commenced writing valuable content officially in Secondary School (2009) when he became the President of a Literary & Debating Society and Press Club (conjoined clubs). He was responsible for writing news, creative content, debates and other speeches. He edited and proofread speeches. He also represented his school and won many prizes. Afterwards, he became an educator in 2011 and has been using his knowledge of content writing to help his pupils win awesome prizes for about eleven years now. One of his pupils won N100,000 cash prize in Kellogg's National Composition. Another of his pupils won 50 Pounds in 2017 during a debate competition he prepared him for. Also, in June 2022 his debate pupils won N150,000 at the Canadian Gateway inter-school debate competition. To hone his skills, he has taken some courses, e.g. Copywriting for Conversions: How to Write Persuasive Content, Strategies for Teaching Phonics using Multisensory Instruction Techniques and Fundamentals of English Grammar in which he had a distinction of 100%. He even has a certificate in Teach English as a Foreign Language (Internationally Recognized), making him a Qualified ESL Teacher. Moreover, he has a National Diploma in Business Administration and B.Sc. in Economics. He prepared his pupils for a fantastic delivery at the Vanguard TV Children's Day Program, 2022 with barely two days of preparation. In 2021, five of his pupils made the Honor's Roll and received a Bronze Medal while one of them was among those that came in the FIRST position in Lagos State, Nigeria - in the Royal Mathematics Quiz Challenge. This pupil achieved this feat while he was in Grade Four - not even the highest class in the competition! Murphy has also helped many pupils pass the N.C.E.E. and International Examinations with flying colors. He uses both the Nigerian scheme and Cambridge Scheme and resources. He teaches both physically and only since he is tech-savvy. Among the remarkable awards/recognition he has received are: •The Teacher of the Year •The Most Consistent Teacher • The Most Outstanding Speech/Debate Coach (cash prize) etc. Writing content, teaching or communication for him is more than a muse - it is a life! Thank you!

I have taught English for over 13 years now; my students have won many prizes, including a National Competition. During lessons, I paint mental pictures that are relatable. I also dramatize. Connectivity is also one of my strengths: I connect new concepts to previously learned concepts to aid retention. I am also very engaging because I am a passionate tutor.

While my base rate aligns with the platform’s guidelines, certain factors may lead to slight adjustments. Being aware of this and to give consent for such adjustments, SuperProf allows tutors to add “𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀” in this segment!

I͟n͟s͟t͟a͟n͟c͟e͟s͟ w͟h͟e͟r͟e͟ r͟a͟t͟e͟-a͟d͟j͟u͟s͟t͟m͟e͟n͟t͟ m͟a͟y͟ o͟c͟c͟u͟r͟ include the student’s academic level and the tasks required to meet their specific needs, such as lesson preparation, progress tracking, and tailored resources — most of which I pay subscription fees for. Additionally, for more demanding subjects, tests or exams like IELTS, SAT, or GRE, which require extensive planning and specialized materials, rates may vary.

Other considerations include the number of students (e.g., teaching siblings together), time zone differences requiring sessions at unconventional hours, the durations, the amount of sessions in preparation for a fast-approaching exam and costs associated with virtual learning tools.

  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn it?

My core language is English, which is my native language. I speak this language fluently as it's the language I have used in learning and communication all my life.
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

William Shakespeare is the emblematic representative of the English language's culture. He is not just a historical figure but a foundational force who profoundly shaped the language itself.

Shakespeare is credited with inventing over 1,700 words, including "eyeball" and "swagger," which are still used daily. He gave us countless common phrases like "a heart of gold" and "all that glitters is not gold." His plays are a cornerstone of English culture and education, demonstrating the wit, drama, and intellectual depth of the language. His unparalleled influence on vocabulary and expression makes him the ultimate symbol.
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

I like inspirational phrases and quotes like, “Reach for the stars", “you're a priceless jewel", etc.
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

It is currently the most popular language in the world and students across the globe wants to learn it which puts me in a position of rendering my tutoring services for global impact.
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language, and what can help students with the learning process?

Mother tongue influence is the most salient challenge. To tackle this, students are expected to saturate their lives with this language which they intend to learn.
  • 6) Could you share an anecdote related to your language learning or your student days?

In college, my roommate, who was from Japan, struggled with English idioms. One day, he came back from a terrible job interview looking defeated. I tried to console him, saying, "Don't worry, you can always try again. Every cloud has a silver lining." He looked at me, utterly confused, and responded, "But there are no clouds in the sky today!"

It was a moment that made me realize how much of language is tied to culture, and how a simple phrase can be lost in translation. We both ended up laughing, and it became a running joke between us.
  • 7) How has travel or a specific experience helped you to increase your understanding and appreciation of the language?

Whenever I travel to English-speaking countries like the United States of America, I get the opportunity to converse with more fluent native speakers which helps me become more fluent in its usage.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof?

My 15 years experience with global recognitions on platforms like LinkedIn and Favikon makes me a SuperProf. I am mentioned among the Top ESL tutors/content creators in the world.
