About Oliver
Everybody says that they are passionate about their subject: feel free to browse my literature blog (Instagram: @meatyliterature) to see how much I care about History, English and language more widely.
I’ve tutored for years: I successfully helped a student get into Cambridge to study English, and helped four A Level students to improve up to 4 grades to achieve As and A*s in History, English Literature and Psychology. Now that I have a degree, I want to tutor more because it’s fun and because I’m good at it. I worked as a PE teacher for a year between school and university and loved it, so I want to do a similar thing now that I have more academic qualifications. I volunteer as a women’s U13 and U15 Rugby Union coach, and it is really rewarding to see them improve. Tutoring offers something similar.
Academia: I ranked first in my cohort at Oxford and ranked first for several final honours papers. These included a mark of 80.0 in a paper called ‘Language, Persuasion, People, Things’ in which I received an award for an extended essay on linguistic and paralinguistic constructions of loyalty in supermarket ‘loyalty card’ schemes. I received marks of 75.0 and 74.0 in two other extended essays, so have a specialism in coursework and essay writing.

I teach History and English to all levels up to and including Undergraduate degrees. This includes entrance exams like the HAT and ELAT (Oxbridge), A-Level, IGCSE/GCSE and primary level.
I am not a natural scholar. I failed most of my mock GCSEs 6 months before getting 10A*s, and I was rejected from Oxford the first time I applied. But there are few people that can strategise better than I can, and that’s what I can teach you: strategy and critical thinking.
