About Luke
I grew up in London and attended Latymer Upper School, where I achieved the highest possible grades in my chosen subjects: an A* in English Literature A-Level, an A* in the EPQ, and D1s in both Cambridge Pre-U History and Cambridge Pre-U Philosophy & Ethics.
I went on to study English Literature at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 2024 with First Class Honours. I was awarded the James Elliott Prize for achieving the highest average and the highest dissertation mark in my cohort.
After returning to London, I studied for an MA in UCL’s world-leading Material and Visual Culture department, graduating in September 2025 with Distinction and a placement on the Dean’s List.
I have been tutoring since sixth form, beginning as a volunteer tutor at a local secondary school. At university, I worked closely with undergraduates to refine essay technique, develop clear arguments, and structure written work effectively, resulting in consistent improvements in academic performance.
I also frequently tutor students with neurodivergences such as dyslexia and ADHD, whose learning styles may not align with traditional classroom settings. For these students, I adapt my teaching methods to suit individual needs, with a focus on developing effective learning strategies and fostering confidence.

My approach is always tailored to the individual student: I begin by assessing their strengths, areas for improvement, and learning style, and then design lessons that directly address their goals.
With younger students, I prioritise building confidence and enjoyment by selecting texts and activities that connect with their interests and imagination. This helps students feel engaged and capable, particularly in reading and writing. At the same time, I am rigorous in developing the core skills required for success, including close textual analysis, clear written expression, and structured argument.
Across all levels, I place strong emphasis on exam preparation and essay technique. I teach students how to interpret exam questions precisely, plan effectively under timed conditions, and understand what examiners are looking for at top-grade level. Alongside this, I aim to develop critical thinking, intellectual independence, and a positive, self-motivated approach to learning.
