About Kathleen
Hello! My name is Kathleen or Ms. B, and I am excited to offer my expertise in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to both children and adults.
With many years of experience teaching Kindergarten through 7th grade and working with adult ESL learners, I bring a deep passion for helping my students succeed in reading, speaking, and writing English.
I hold an Honours Bachelor of Arts and Science, a Bachelor of Education, and Special Education and ESL certifications. My experience as a teacher and my journey as a mother of four has equipped me with the skills to connect with learners of all ages. Whether you want to enhance your language skills or start learning English from the basics, I am here to guide you through every step.
As I continue my journey in law school, I am constantly enriching the knowledge and experience I bring to my teaching. My philosophy is centered on creating a supportive and engaging environment where students feel confident and motivated to learn. I am committed to helping you achieve your English language goals.
I bring over 20 years of diverse teaching experience to the table. I have had the privilege of teaching in traditional and online classrooms, allowing me to connect with students in various environments.
I have taught various grade levels throughout my career, from the foundational years in Grade 2 to the pivotal transition years in Grade 7. As well as adults of all backgrounds and needs.
After many years in the classroom, I transitioned to teaching Kindergarten and Grade 7 online, where I continued to foster a love for learning.
My experience extends beyond general education, as I have also worked in special education, providing tailored support to students with unique needs.
Additionally, I have taught ESL to adults, helping them build their English language skills for personal and professional growth.
With a passion for education and a commitment to student success, I am dedicated to creating engaging and inclusive learning experiences that meet the needs of every learner.

Teaching Method and Techniques
As a tutor, my teaching method is to understand each student's needs. I believe in creating a supportive and interactive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their thoughts.
I use a combination of direct instruction, guided practice, and interactive activities to reinforce key concepts. I also incorporate real-world examples to make learning more relatable and engaging.
A Typical Lesson Plan
A typical lesson with me begins with a quick review of previous material to ensure a strong foundation. Then, I introduce new concepts clearly and structure them into manageable parts. We’ll work through examples together, and I’ll provide opportunities for independent practice to reinforce what we’ve covered. The lesson usually ends with a brief recap and an open Q&A to address any lingering questions or concerns.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
What sets me apart is my commitment to personalized learning. I take the time to understand each student’s learning style, strengths, and areas for improvement, tailoring my approach accordingly. I’m patient, adaptable, and passionate about helping students succeed academically and develop confidence in their abilities. I aim to make learning enjoyable and empower students to become independent learners.
Who the Lessons Are For
My lessons are designed and created specifically for the students I am teaching in that lesson. To ensure this, I conduct needs assessments and then apply the students' interests and learning goals as I build impactful and effective lesson plans. [specific group, e.g., high school students, college undergraduates, adults returning to education, etc.]. Whether you’re preparing for exams, learning business English, struggling with a specific subject, or looking to improve your skills, I’m here to help.
