About Elise

Hello! I am a recent college graduate with a B.S. in microbiology and minors in Latin and the liberal arts. I have a great deal of experience in essay writing and editing. I worked in an essay writing workshop for the Blount Scholars Program at the University of Alabama, in which I helped incoming students hone their writing skills so that they would be commensurate with collegiate-level expectations. Moreover, I worked as a scientific writer and copy editor for a laboratory on campus for several months. I, additionally, have a great deal of personal experience editing papers as a freelancer and as favors to friends.

Additionally, I have a background as an ESL, reading, and writing tutor for K12 students. Thus, I have a great deal of experience working with young students on reading and phonics, as I worked as a community outreach tutor in Tuscaloosa, AL, for about three years. I have worked with children learning English as a second language and with students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia. Thus, I have learned to teach similar concepts to students who may have demonstrated difficulty internalizing related information. Moreover, I have established several effective learning tools to ensure that learning is easy, fun, and engaging for younger students. Establishing a solid student-teacher relationship with students and gaining their trust and respect as an educator is essential to effective learning. I have worked to understand how to best work with young students to improve their understanding in multiple fields of study!

About the lesson

I am prepared to teach students at all levels (K-12 through post-secondary study) and have worked with students of all ages throughout my career as a tutor.

I provide essay-writing help and paper-editing to older students and teach reading and phonics to younger students. I am a big proponent of learning tools such as flashcards and mnemonics. I have, furthermore, found that gamifying learning for young students keeps them engaged and interested in the topic at hand.

I firmly believe all learning environments should be comfortable and collaborative for all participants. Thus, it is essential to foster a friendly tutor-student relationship!
