About Adam
I have recently graduated from the University of Nottingham with a First Class Honours Degree in History and Politics. During university I worked with young people extensively on outreach events as a Student Ambassador and also supported children’s theatrical productions as a Front of House Steward at the Theatre Royal and Concert Hall. I have experience in tutoring my subject to my peers and younger students and I am always keen to show how exciting History is.
I am confident that I can tutor any period of History, though throughout my degree I have specialised in the History of Empire, British Political History, Japanese History, African Decolonisation, and Global Security. I have also studied the Medieval World, 500-1500, and the Early Modern Period, 1500-1789.

In each session I like to cover some course content together and then engage in wider discussion about the history to develop reasoning skills. Exam preparation is also important to me and I ensure that my students are capable of making strong historical arguments and analysing sources critically. These transferable skills will be useful to my students inside and outside of the classroom.
My teaching approach is tailored towards each individual student’s needs. I am happy to adjust the focus of a lesson if it appears that another area of a student’s performance requires closer attention. For example, skills such as essay writing may need to be prioritised at certain points.
I keenly follow current affairs and one of my priorities as a tutor is to show my students the relevance of what they’re learning to understanding the world today. At appropriate opportunities I therefore like to highlight how their course content intersects with key philosophical and historical issues.
