About Leah
Hello! My name is Leah Burgess, and I’m a recent Purdue University graduate with a degree in Genetics. During my time at Purdue, I developed a deep understanding of the sciences and gained hands-on experience in applying complex concepts through coursework, lab work, and real-world projects. My academic background equips me with the knowledge to guide students through challenging many subjects of biology and genetics with clarity and precision.
I believe that a solid understanding of the basics is essential for mastering advanced material, and I take a structured, logical approach to tutoring. My method involves breaking down complex topics into manageable steps, using clear explanations and interactive problem-solving techniques to ensure full comprehension. By walking through each aspect of a subject, we’ll identify knowledge gaps and fill them together, which will help build your confidence and ability to solve problems independently.
I also recognize that every student learns differently, so I tailor each session to fit your specific needs. Whether we’re preparing for exams, working through homework, or aiming for long-term success, my goal is to provide you with a logical framework that will serve you not just in the short term, but throughout your academic career.
With my commitment to personalized instruction and clear communication, I am confident that I can help you achieve your academic goals while fostering a deeper appreciation for science.

As a tutor, I focus on building a solid foundation of understanding through clear communication and personalized learning strategies. I will begin by assessing the student’s current knowledge and identifying any gaps. From there, I will help break down complex concepts into manageable steps, ensuring the student has grasped the fundamentals before progressing. I encourage active learning through detailed, step-by-step explanations and discussions, where we work through the moving pieces of a subject together. My sessions are highly conversational, as I believe talking through problems and concepts helps solidify understanding. I tailor my approach to each student, incorporating visual aids, relatable examples, and thorough explanations to suit different learning styles. This allows us to work together closely, ensuring a deeper grasp of the material in an engaging online format.
