About Emmett
Hello, I’m Emmett. I’m a new tutor with a strong passion for helping middle and high school students feel confident and capable in their learning. My approach is patient, structured, and centered on truly listening to what each student needs. I use hands-on activities, clear guidance, and opportunities for students to take the lead so they can build both skills and independence. As a queer educator, I’m committed to creating a calm, inclusive, and non-intimidating space where all students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow. I believe learning works best when students feel respected and supported, and I bring that mindset to every session. I look forward to helping students build confidence, strengthen their abilities, and discover what they’re capable of—with encouragement, clarity, and kindness.

Teaching Method & Techniques
My teaching method is grounded in structured, student-centered learning. I utilize hands-on activities, purposeful speaking and writing practice, and guided exercises designed to help students engage actively with the material. Although I am at the beginning of my professional tutoring journey, I bring a strong commitment to creating an environment where students feel empowered to participate, ask questions, and take ownership of their progress. I provide clear, constructive feedback to support skill development and help students understand both their strengths and areas for improvement.
A Typical Lesson Plan
A standard lesson follows a consistent and organized format:
Initial Check-In: A brief discussion to establish the day’s objectives and identify any immediate concerns.
Warm-Up Activity: A short exercise to transition the student into focused learning.
Core Instruction: A combination of direct teaching, collaborative exploration, and hands-on practice tailored to the student’s needs.
Student-Led Practice: Dedicated time for the student to work independently, articulate their reasoning, and engage with the material while I provide guidance.
Feedback and Homework: A clear summary of progress followed by targeted, manageable homework to reinforce the lesson.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
While I am new to professional tutoring, I bring qualities that strongly support student success: patience, active listening, and a genuine commitment to meeting each student where they are. I prioritize creating a calm, respectful, and inclusive learning environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and seeking support. As a queer educator, I foster a welcoming atmosphere that is free from intimidation or harshness, allowing students to focus fully on learning and growth. My approach is centered on empathy, encouragement, and clear communication.
Who My Lessons Are For
My lessons are designed for middle school and high school students who benefit from structured guidance and an individualized approach. I work well with:
Students who learn through active participation and hands-on practice
Students seeking a patient, attentive tutor who adapts to their needs
Learners who thrive in a calm, inclusive, and supportive environment
Students who need confidence-building, foundational skill support, or steady academic reinforcement
Regardless of the student’s current level, I aim to provide clear instruction, consistent support, and a learning environment that promotes both confidence and academic improvement.
