About James
I'm James, and I discovered the Classical World aged 11. I studied Latin at A-Level in the North of England, and Classics at University College London, graduating with a First in 2020. I've since taken this experience into the fast-paced world of tech start-ups.
My biggest objective is for students to view the Latin world through the same curious lens I was allowed growing up: to have the freedom to question its inconsistencies; to enjoy the richness of its story-telling; and to be excited at new discoveries.
The Latin language is the cornerstone of the classicist's toolbox: translating and dissecting original texts is the best way to learn.

I approach tutoring in the same manner I was taught at secondary school and university:
- with respect,
- with curiosity,
- with attention to detail, and
- with a wider appreciation of the Classical World.
30/60 minute lessons are broadly based on assigned material from homework / required reading. They can include elements of:
- translation,
- topic/theme discussion,
- essay advice.
I'm available to teach students from age 11 to age 16, focussing on early-stage and GCSE Latin - any queries, please reach out.
