About Althea
Hello, my name is Althea. I recently graduated from UC Santa Cruz with degrees in Environmental Studies and Geology. I have advanced knowledge in math, chemistry, physics, environmental science, and English. I was a Level 1 Certified Sailing Instructor for five years, where I taught students ages 5–18. Through this experience and training, I learned how to work effectively with students of diverse ages, backgrounds, and learning needs. I've also spent time volunteering at Bonny Doon Elementary through an environmental education program, where I often worked one-on-one with 4th and 5th-graders, assisting them with math, writing, and art projects.

My teaching method is centered on personalized, concept-driven learning. I focus on understanding how each student learns best—whether through visuals, hands-on practice, discussion, or real-world examples—and I adapt my lessons accordingly. I encourage active learning and critical thinking through guided problem solving and question asking.
What distinguishes me as a tutor is my experience connecting disciplines like math and writing with science, policy, and philosophy.
My lessons are designed for K–12 students—from elementary learners building core literacy and numeracy skills to middle and high school students tackling advanced coursework in math, science, and English. I also support students preparing for standardized tests, improving academic writing, or catching up after absences or learning challenges.
