Ashley Byrd is a mature, dedicated and driven leader, mentor, and tutor of the highest caliber. The consummate professional, her focus displays a passion and commitment not only to the pursuit of educational and professional excellence but also to the further improvement and advancement of her peers. She is poised and confident while approachable and understanding, which combine to give her a one-of-a-kind leadership presence. I personally vouch for this fact because I would not be the undergraduate student I am today were it not for her wise counsel and professional mentorship—and, most of all, her tutoring of me in Spanish! Prior to my time here at UNCW, I built a highly successful military career that spanned twenty years, four combat deployments, and several special duty assignments doing the very things that this individual has helped to reinforce in me since I became a student veteran at this institution: the viable and very tangible Corps values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment. I used to think I would barely scrape through my language requirement here at college; Ashley makes me believe I will not only master Spanish but, also do so having a lot of fun!

Ashley is an amazing tutor! She really helped me practice rather than just giving me the answers! She pushed me to stop making excuses and just go for it! Her confidence in me transferred to my class preformance and I could not be more satisfied with the progress she helped me make!
