About Rex
Hi all! My name is Rex and I recently earned my Masters of Education with a concentration in literacy. This is important because I have a great deal of modern teaching techniques fresh in the memory banks. I am also a veteran and because of my time in the military, I am very organized, professional, positive, detail oriented, and motivating, and I plan to bring those skills to our sessions. In addition to having a passion for writing, I love 3D printing, making art, and I have an adorable dog which you will likely see in the background.

My teaching method as a tutor will be very student centered. To begin every session, I plan to be a strong listener in order to understand exactly what the student needs help with. If it is connected to a particular assignment, I would love to go over the instructions with the student.
A typical lesson plan for writing would often be very simple as I might only be trying to help a student find a topic or help them with grammatical or formatting issues. However, if there is a clear pattern of error which I can help correct, I would create a mini lesson based around the specific issue. For example, if a student has a pattern of forgetting a comma after a preposition, I would first tackle the issue of what a preposition is, how to locate them, and where exactly might the comma go.
What sets me apart as a tutor is that I was recently a student. Although I was in graduate school most recently, I have spent the last seven years as a student and the first year was remedial classes. This means that I know what its like to be a student who feels behind others as well as a student who has modern reading and writing skills and techniques fresh in the mind.
My lessons could be for anyone who needs help writing, even some early college level essays. I would be the strongest working in all literacy subjects from 4th to 10th grade.
