About Tohma
Prior to attending university, I was admitted to and attended Brooklyn Technical High School, one of New York City's elite specialized high schools. More recently, I received a BA from Wesleyan University with a triple major in the College of Letters (Western philosophy, history, and literature), cultural anthropology, and German studies. I have also received honors from Phi Beta Kappa, indicating a high GPA as well as an overall high standard of academic achievement. I have tutored fellow students beginning in high school and continued to do so up to the university level. As I study for the LSATs myself, I have found renewed interest in tutoring students.

Instead of watching my students complete a task and giving lackluster advice here and there, my tutoring method is almost entirely discursive: I teach through mediated discussion of the content at hand, including, of course, a discussion of the potential strategies for both learning the content and learning how to learn the content. In my experience, this is the best way to engage students and spark a desire for learning. Depending on the content, a lesson will include reading, writing, problem-solving, and discussion. Discussion here is critical because, unable to clearly articulate the idea, an idea is still unlearned. My lessons are for upper-level middle schoolers, high schoolers, and University students only.
