About John
I am British born and lived, was educated and worked in London until my thirties when I emigrated to South Africa working mainly in Johannesburg region but now living near (+/- 85kms) Cape Town, or 40kms Somerset West or Worcester. I am/was an accountant achieving director status and following retirement feeling rather bored decided to take the TESOL course in 2010 and teach English to non English speaking persons. I then travelled to Moscow and enrolled with some language schools and taught English mainly to individuals or small groups, both adult and children with quite a deal of success. I spent 3 very interesting years there but returned to SA in 2013. I wanted to continue teaching English and enrolled with an Overseas School offering hosting teaching opportunities mainly to European students but also to others. Perhaps due to rising costs and to moving away from the close to Cape Town environment, numbers of students have declined considerably, but I would like to continue teaching English as apart from the financial aspect, I find it very rewarding to my spirit and it keeps me active and contributing.

My teaching method is to establish some rapport with a student and find out their interests and aspirations and to talk about these. I have taught to young children up to adults of varying achievement levels from beginners to advanced, but must admit I prefer intermediate or advanced. I try to utilise different aspects, i.e. reading aloud as this covers both pronunciation and meanings of new words, together with other activities to promote students interest and speaking ability. Often I use business based class text as many students are trying to achieve business and work progression.
Due to my now more country location I am trying to extend to also cover Skype lessons.
