About Shelley
I am a retired professor of nursing with teaching experience in the faculties of nursing, medicine, rehabilitation medicine, kinesiology, physical and occupational therapy, English, and general sciences. I started a sessional lecturer in Rehabilitation in 1990, and became a professor of nursing in 1995, focusing on physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and critical thinking clinical nursing skills. I hold 2 PhD degrees, one in Cardiopulmonary Medicine, and the other in Rehabilitation Science. I have also authored and co-authored approximately 25 articles that have appeared in prominent scholarly journals, including Journal of Physiology, European Journal of Physiology, Medicine & Science in Sports and Exercise, and the American Cardiology Association Journal.
In addition to tutoring in specific nursing, medicine, rehabilitation medicine, English, and science courses, I offer tutoring on scholarly writing to help you achieve top notch grades in your classes. I use a variety of teaching methodologies tailored to your personal needs with a single goal in mind: to make learning fun, easy, and simple while helping you achieve the success you want.

I use a variety of methodologies and techniques, including one-to-one tutoring, supplemented with state of the art images and animations to help you quickly and easily grasp difficult concepts.
A typical lesson plan involves:
a) Setting out learning objectives for that day's class, as well as for the next few sessions.
b) Evaluating what works best for your learning- are you an auditory, visual, or cognitive learner? Do you learn best with cognitive, affective, or psychomotor lesson plans?
c) Advance preparation of materials to be used during the lecture, with pre-tutor notes and an outline delivered to the student ahead of time to ensure that the concepts and skills that will be covered in the next tutorial session are what you need, want, and expect.
d) Meeting with the student to tutor them in specific skills. For example, a typical lesson plan for nursing would include:
- introduction to the tutorial session topic
- review learning objectives & revise for the tutorial session if necessary
- presentation of a nursing case study
- review of background pathology, pharmacology, & clinical skills necessary to address the case study, utilizing interactive online notes, high quality focused images relevant to the case study, medical animations to facilitate easy learning of difficult concepts
- how to undertake a nursing assessment based on the case study during which I walk you through how to do the assessment, what to focus on, what additional information might be required, and critical thinking with respect to the case study
- application of the nursing metaparadigm as it applies to the case study
- development of a nursing care plan for the case study
- development of a teaching and learning plan for the client in the case study
- conclusion
- provision of supplemental reading & scholarly articles.
