About Pamela
I want to teach you because I have retired and miss the interaction with learners. I have taught in the universities of Warwick, York, London, Cumbria, Bristol, and Glasgow, and am now Professor Emerita. I continue to research actively, but also love to teach, especially in tutorial. My style is relaxed and unintimidating: we start from where you are. The books are the thing, and my goal is simply to share the pleasure they bring me with new initiates whatever their experience or goals. What you get is interaction with an accessible senior scholar.

Perhaps you are a writer, a graduate of English or another arts subject, a secondary school teacher, but missed out on reading the early period - Chaucer? Old English? even Shakespeare. And all their contemporaries.
I have spent my whole career immersed in these areas of literature and love leading committed adults into new and daunting areas. There is an old adage that it is much easier in the arts to move forwards towards our own time than to move backwards. That’s where I come in.
School teacher wanting to feel more confident with early texts? I could be your quick fix to confidence in teaching and making accessible anything from 1700 backwards!
Postgraduate student? I can also help with dissertation and thesis preparation - from defining your title and scope to structuring, how to find bibliography, and all the other ways of making the u manageable seem manageable after all.
Want to write well? Persuasively? Authoritatively? I can help with that too.
