About Victor

As a seasoned music educator and performer with over ten years of experience, I've cultivated a profound passion for sharing the richness of musicology with others. With expertise spanning the piano, guitar, and the saxophone. I've had the privilege of connecting with students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels; from children to older adults. My philosophy is rooted in the belief that music is a potent medium for self-expression and personal growth. By merging technical proficiency with creative exploration, I empower my students to uncover their unique musical voices and styles. My teaching approach is tailored to each student's needs, incorporating music theory lessons using tonic solfa and sheet music. Beyond music, I find inspiration in various aspects of life, from history and science to wildlife and aviation. This diverse range of interests enables me to craft engaging, relatable content that enhances the learning experience for my students. In my classes, you can expect a warm, welcoming atmosphere that fosters creativity, comfort, and growth. I prioritize creating a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to explore their musicality at their own pace. By combining music with visual elements, I aim to deepen the impact of our artistic expressions and inspire students to reach their full potentials.

  • 1. When did you first develop a passion for music and your favorite instrument?

My passion for music started at a very young age in church. I was always fascinated by how a simple melody could change the atmosphere of a room. The piano was my first love; it felt like I could express emotions without saying a word. Over time, I picked up the guitar and saxophone, and each instrument opened a new dimension of creativity for me. Today, I don’t just play music, I live it.
  • 2. Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Absolutely! I can listen to gospel, jazz, and soul music endlessly. Artists like Kirk Franklin inspire me with their energy and message, while Kenny G captivates me with smooth, expressive saxophone melodies. I also admire John Legend for his musical depth and songwriting. Their music keeps me inspired and constantly learning.
  • 3. Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

One of the most challenging yet exciting courses I teach is improvisation and musical expression. It’s not just about playing notes, it’s about telling a story. Many students struggle at first because it requires confidence, creativity, and a deep understanding of scales and chords. But once they “unlock” that skill, it transforms their entire musical journey. Watching a student go from playing mechanically to expressing themselves freely is incredibly rewarding.
  • 4. What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

Every instrument has its challenges, but I would say the piano is one of the most complex. It requires coordination between both hands, reading multiple lines of music, and understanding harmony deeply. However, that same complexity is what makes it so powerful, it’s like having a full orchestra at your fingertips.
  • 5. What are your keys to success?

Consistency, patience, and passion. I always tell my students: “You don’t have to be perfect, you just have to keep showing up.” I also believe in making learning enjoyable; when students have fun, they improve faster. Finally, I focus on building confidence because once a student believes in themselves, everything else becomes easier.
  • 6. Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

I would love to sit down with Herbie Hancock, Kirk Franklin, and Charlie Parker.
Herbie Hancock for his genius in jazz and innovation, Kirk Franklin for his ability to blend faith and modern sound, and Charlie Parker for revolutionizing saxophone playing. That conversation would be pure gold—insight, creativity, and inspiration all in one place.
  • 7. Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

I remember a time when I struggled to master a particular chord progression on the piano. I practiced for weeks without getting it right. One day, my instructor told me, “Stop trying to play it perfectly; feel it first.” That changed everything. I closed my eyes, listened deeply, and suddenly it clicked. That moment taught me that music is not just technical; it’s emotional. I now pass that lesson on to my students.
  • 8. What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I go beyond just teaching notes and chords. I style every lesson to the student’s goals -whether they want to play in church, perform on stage, or just enjoy music at home. I’m patient, encouraging, and I celebrate every small win with my students. I also make lessons interactive and practical, so students can start playing real music quickly. Most importantly, I genuinely care about my students’ progress; that’s what makes the difference.
