About Joseph
I am a freelance jazz and session musician gigging and teaching in London.
I perform almost nightly at different venues and bars round London. I have a wide range of performing experience, from playing horn section gigs with up-and-coming pop and rock artists to background lounge jazz residencies in restaurants and bars. I also perform contemporary jazz sets of original music at London's top jazz clubs, including Ronnie Scott's and the 606. I have been a performing professional of this sort since I was 15.
I have studied classical flute since the age of 6 and later began fell in love with Jazz Saxophone, earning a place at the Junior Jazz program at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) when I was 16. Now studying at my undergraduate degree at the RAM, I learn from the best and am avidly learning the complexities of my craft.
I have been teaching private students for years and am extremely proud in their growth as musicians, tending to each students musical taste and goals.

I offer personalised lessons in Jazz improvisation and Saxophone/Flute technique, from beginner to advanced.
Being taught by some of the most notable names in the London Jazz scene such as Will Vinson, Gareth Lockrane and Nikki Isles whilst studying at the Royal Academy of Music has given me a deep understanding of music and teaching.
I have a hands on attitude when it comes to teaching. With a focus on setting achievable goals for my students, we work on getting you to the level you want to be. I am deeply passionate about music and enjoy helping others discover their love for music too.
I believe It is important to shape the lessons for the musical interests and learning style of the students - making exploring your musical tastes a priority!
Lessons can consist of:
- Developing tone and technique
- Personalised pdf studies and exercises
- Learning songs by ear
- Transcription Exercises
- Analysing musical language
- Playing through repertoire together
Generally lessons range from 45 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes though this can be adjusted.
