About Penny

I have been teaching for 20 years as a tutor and substitute teacher in the public school system. A typical student seeking accent reduction is a professional who cannot others and is not understood by colleagues. Students typically resort to accent modification after receiving ESL and not improving in intelligibility or comprehension.
One student reported that his friends could understand him easily and told him so after spending a weekend together. This came about after a couple of months of lessons.

Another college student said she learned a lot after learning what speech sounds she needed to address.

About the lesson

I am a certified accent modification trainer who helps people optimize their spoken English and written skills. I have taught ESL for over 20 years, and have spent 13 years as a technical writer in the software defense and semiconductor industries.
In addition to accent training I sometimes work as a substitute teacher for public schools in the Greater Boston area.

My education includes a Masters in Technical Professional Writing and numerous certificates in various subject areas, such as website design, and accent reduction.
As a teacher I am very student centered and feel that people learn best when they self-correct. I take a positive approach to teaching because people respond favorably to praise. I also believe in student-centered problem solving.
That is I will use a real world issue involving a student because it makes learning meaningful.
