Why do a thing if you will not be known for it? This statement is apt for the teaching profession. In order to be known as a good teacher, you must be effective. Effectiveness in the teaching profession, especially in the primary school level is undoubtedly the foundation for the pupils who are the future of the future leaders of the nation, and the world. This paper enumerates, among other things, the requirements and attributes for effective teaching. It emphasized that qualitative teaching and teaching methodology could be achieved through: the knowledge of subject matter that one teaches; knowledge of human development and learning; adopting instructional materials/improvisioning; multiple/innovative instructional strategies; classroom motivation and management; communication skills; instruction planning skills (lesson plan/notes); assessment of pupils’/students’ learning; professional commitment and responsibility; and enlisting of the co-operation of pupils and parents.
