About Alysha
Hi, I'm Alysha! I’m a passionate science tutor and science teacher in Portsmouth with a degree in Biomedical Science from Southampton University. I specialise in tutoring GCSE Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, as well as A-Level Biology. As someone who didn't always find learning new concepts easy at school, I understand just how difficult and frustrating it can be when something seems hard to grasp. This experience has helped me develop a variety of strategies to break down tricky topics into manageable chunks, making complex ideas less intimidating and easier to learn. My goal is to make science engaging, accessible, and tailored to each student’s needs. A typical science lesson with me (1 Hour) 1. Introduction (5-10 mins) - Briefly discuss the topic for the session. - Relate it to real-world applications to build interest. - Identify areas the student finds challenging. 2. Concept Breakdown & Active Recall (20-25 mins) - Explain key principles in an engaging, interactive way. - Break down complex ideas into manageable chunks. - Guide the student in creating concise, structured revision notes. - Use active recall techniques, such as asking the student to summarise concepts aloud. 3. Exam Practice (20 mins) - Work through past paper exam questions. - Demonstrate how to structure answers to maximise marks. - Discuss common pitfalls/misconceptions and how to avoid them. - Encourage students to apply their knowledge in different contexts. 4. Recap & Quiz (5-10 mins) - Quick quiz or verbal review to reinforce learning. - Identify any remaining areas for improvement.
