Second year student at Imperial College London - Maths tutor with Shrimat

I tutored Shrimat for his A-level Maths and Further Maths, and for university applications. He was an excellent student: very bright, engaged, hard-working; and above all a very talented mathematician. He always took initiative to study things on his own, and brought interesting problems to our sessions. I have no doubt he would make a great tutor.

A notably thoughtful and astute mathematician, and a model student, Shrimat's work ethic and thirst to master new concepts support his considerable ability in the subject. He shows both insight and intuition in the way he approaches his work, whether instinctively determining the direction of frictional forces in mechanics or choosing appropriately between cartesian or parametric approaches in coordinate geometry. He assimilates new ideas with ease and is always eager to learn more; in particular, Shrimat is keen to generalise results, as seen when he correctly conjectured geometrical interpretations for determinants of 3x3 matrices, whilst simultaneously being intrigued by what higher order square matrices might represent. Confident with the technical aspects of the subject, Shrimat’s solutions are without exception carefully thought through and his consistently flawless algebraic work, layout and diagrams have ensured success in numerous mechanics extension problems.


A skilled problem solver, Shrimat has impressed in UKMT competitions, having qualified for BMO after confidently achieving a Gold certificate in the Senior Mathematical Challenge. Shrimat will persevere, working with determination until he is quietly satisfied that he has a complete solution to a challenging problem. This attitude has helped him to regularly submit correct solutions to the unfamiliar and stretching MAT and STEP problems set as optional extension work, as well as to succeed in extracurricular competitions.
